Rare Antique Intact Victorian Traveling Case in Burled Walnut and Ivory. Since this was probably used "on the continent," we should say "travelling case" as that would be the correct spelling. We are very proud to offer such a fine example of Victoriana, particulary one in almost perfect state of repair. From the red smocking under the lid to the complete kit of haberdashery tools and containers, this travel case is the bomb. Top tray lifts out to expose more storage. A special cotter pin allowed the keyholder (yes, it opens by key) to hide rings, watches and cash in a bottom drawer, safe from robbers on ships and trains. Truly an example of when travel abroad was reserved as a luxury, this handsome case needs a very special home.
Approximate Dimensions: 12"W X 8 3/4"D X 6 3/4"H Note: As shown in the detail photo, one glass container has been damaged, which could be restored.

Antique George I Walnut Chest on Chest
Signed Oil Painting , Indian Art #19, Carl Schmidt, c 1920
Antiques from the reign of George I of England are very rare. This particular king ruled for a very short time(13 years), thus pieces that strictly came from that time are scarce. It has been lovingly restored, but the finish is not new by any means. Two chests of "two over three" drawers nestle perfectly together. The older brasses suit the piece well, too. It's a very fine acquisition for a new collector or an avid one.
Approximate Dimensions: 67 1/4"H X 36 1/2"W X 21 1/2"D
Signed Oil Painting , Indian Art #19, Carl Schmidt, c 1920 .A fine example of famed California artist Carl Schmidt's work. Not to be confused with the expressionist, spelled with "K." His most prolific art was produced in San Bernardino, and he established himself with fine landscapes, murals, and still lifes. This is a beautiful piece from the latter. Schmidt's paintings are illusions of the real, with strokes of an impressionist. Oil on canvas. Highly sought after by collectors of California regional genre--quite a find!

Antique Large Rare 19th Century Carved Buddhist Monk Figure
PAIR 17th Century Oil Paintings of Trophy Fowls, Signed Von Hamilton
Antique Large Rare 19th Century Carved Buddhist Monk Figure. We shudder to recommend someone buy a piece for investment, preferring to offer items to be enjoyed for their sheer beauty and rarity. However, this seated Buddhist monk figure could always be an exception. He offers perhaps the best of both "worlds." Rare, lovely and well priced, this stunning bastion of mysticism and calm beckons to his viewers. The figure is entirely hand carved, and it is mostly intact, with partial areas of the throne lost from wood rot which do not detract from the overall piece. He still retains both of his original porcelain eyes and a reddish cloth tassel on his cap. The stylized robe suggests stone statuary in the Gandaran style as does the monumental treatment of the facial details. Contact us anytime for further information.
Approximate Dimensions: 38"H X 21.5"W X 13"D
PAIR 17th Century Oil Paintings of Trophy Fowls, Signed Von Hamilton. This pair of fine oils is attributed to Flemish artist Philipp Ferdinand Von Hamilton. Von Hamilton, also known as de Hamilton was born in Brussels. He, along with three sons, were all master court painters to the crowned heads of Europe. These paintings have been professionally conserved, re-stretched, and they're ready to hang. Some overpainting could be easily accomplished where the canvas is slightly worn. Frames are perhaps 19th century. They exhibit some shrinkage, but they showcase the paintings beautifully.
Approximate Dimensions: 26"H X 23"W X 1 1/2"D (outside dimensions of frame)

This bull did not come to CHURCHILL easily. He's stubborn and heavy! He is constructed of natural peachy pink Italian marble with charcoal gray veining. The result is one beautiful figure, ready for a grand home or office. This bull is in generally good condition with one exception, a portion of his left ear has been chipped off. Very Rare 18th Century Spanish Desk with Wrought Iron Trestling. For collectors who search for the best of a category, here it is.... This desk came to us through a dealer who acquires pieces from important European homes and parsonages. Every detail speaks of hand made workmanship and quality, from hand wrought iron supports to special, stylized floral motifs on the drawers. The primary wood is walnut. The assembly methods are motise and tenon, dovetails, etc. No details were overlooked when this fine desk was produced. The top is in good shape for it's years, albeit a few well done patches have been made. Also present are small scorched areas because candles were the only light source for the period. Antique Gessoed Italian Candlesticks/Lamp Bases
(Pair) Antique Palace Doors from Sultan's Residence in Zanzibar
Antique Gessoed Italian Candlesticks/Lamp Bases For the discerning antiquer, this pair of "girandole" bases, as they were called, is a rare find. Most like them, are either in museums or in desparate states of disrepair. Only gessoed on the fronts, they were probably used in a church or private alter, done to conserve very costly expense. They usually had tin bobeches and prickets of iron which held candles. The finish is chocolate brown and cream, low luster and sublime. Today, these beauties make lamp bases, and they are easily electrified (inquire if you need that service). Or, use them as originally intended.
Approximate Dimensions: 1'H X 1'W X 5.25"D

We procurred this magnificent pair of doors in Kenya, complete with slim carved surround and two heavily carved corbels in which to swing the doors (more photos upon request). It's a rare find, and they are in excellent condition to use in your home. The old hand made latch still works--a tribute to 19th century details!

Antique Chinese Apothecary Chest
Antique Architectural Fragment of Parcel Gilt Pilasters Converted into Floor Lamps
Antique Asian furnishings are like candy to the best interior designers. We offer this very unusual vertical antique Chinese apothecary chest. While it is difficult to ascertain exact age, we think it fits the mid 19th century. Similar pieces are usually much shorter with the open area (meant to house votive figures or Buddhas) situated within the drawers. This one has an entire top shelf to store treasures, books, etc. While most are wood finished or painted with multicolors, this chest was finished in a nice neutral, cream colored paint. The sides are dark brown wood toned. Use it to house so many things.... hobby supplies, spices, photos and more. It's weight is an estimate. Please contact CHURCHILL for shipping advice.
Approximate Dimensions: 7'H X 2'D X 42"W Note: Buddha sculpture is resting on the drawer, turned upside down, used as a shelf.
