Art Deco Signed Bronze Female Archer on Horseback, Otto Poertzel. Professor Otto Poertzel's bronze works were favorites of the German aristocracy, particularly during the height of the Art Deco period, c1930s-1940s. Born in Scheibe, Germany in 1876, Otto quickly caught on in salon shows for the German royal court. The King of Bulgaria was an avid collector of his sleek bronze and ivory masterpieces.
We offer an early Art Deco piece by Poertzel. The patina is very deep bronze in color. The subject is an Amazonian female, wearing what looks like a Roman helmet, wielding a large drawn bow (no arrow found, perhaps never there). The bronze base is mounted on black marble with subtle white veining.
