Antique (Pair) Late 19th Century "Samson" Style Porcelain Dogs. These fantastic porcelain dog figures were offered to CHURCHILL as Samsons. This refers to a defunct Paris firm, famous for reproducing fine porcelains, Samson, Edme and Cie. It began in the 1830s, and the company was eventually taken over by Edme's son, who produced into the early 1900s. The quality was high, but some Victorians thought the glazes garrish. Imagine that! Today, they are most highly sought after. Each dog is unmarked, though Samson typically used the underglaze mark, "Ss." Rosenthal and Meisen also created these types of figures. Hats off to the lucky future owners!
