Native American Kachina Figure, Hopi Tribe. Kachinas, or tihu as they are called in the Hopi language, embody things important to the survival of their tribe, like fertility, grain, clouds, rain, etc. This one is known as a dancing kachina, denoted by the rattle he carries. Objects like this were given to children, not as toys, but rather as the precious benevolent beings they represent. Kachinas, like bohdisattvas in the Buddhist faith, bring only good to those who keep them.
