Antique Continental Giltwood Mirror early 19th Century. Transitional styling makes this mirror more difficult to date. Details like latticing and a floral urn definitely point to a Rococo influence. The mirror is aged somewhat, but it could have been replaced at an early time. Rococo revival pieces of the latter Victorian Era just don't typically show the expertise that is present here. The finish is masterful, with carefully blended bronze, gold leaf, and even a touch of muted silver. All are present in just the right way. The mirror is not beveled which could encourage an earlier dating, too. At any rate, this mirror deserves to be among your finest possessions. Please note: Reflection in mirror has been blurred by the photographer. The actual refection is relatively clear with subtle nuances and patina that come with age.
