Antique English Gothic Style Trunk/Blanket Chest in Oak. Extremely old oak chest with shallow relief carvings of pinwheels and a cross on front. Hardware is all hand wrought from iron. Crude dovetails hold the sides together. Shrinkage details and rudimentary construction could place this as an orignal Jacobean piece. Feet are perhaps replaced as most are, but the overall chest is intact, less wormholes. Origin is probably England or northern France. These chests traditionally held a bride's dowry.
