Sonya Ooten 14K Yellow Gold and Pearl Double Woven Disc Earrings

Sonya creates her jewels by hand using techniques passed down through generations, literally, and is widely recognized as the leader in hand crocheted jewelry.

As a young girl, her Great Gramma Alice taught her Native American beading & weaving techniques while Sonya visited her on the Colville Confederated Tribes Reservation in Northern Washington State.

When she was five years old, Sonya's Grandmother Julia, an Eastern Eurpoean émigré, gave Sonya her first crochet needle and introduced her to the arts of crochet & tatting.

Sonya's formal fabrication training began in 1986 at the renowned jewelry & metalworking laboratories at Dartmouth College. She went on to study advanced silversmithing in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she was represented in several galleries.

Sonya continues to draw deeply from both her Native American ancestry & European roots while designing each of her collec

tions. And, she takes great pride in designing each piece individually, by hand, in her workshop.

Today, Sonya lives in Silver Lake near downtown Los Angeles, California. She and her husband, Chris, have two daughters and a son. In 2005, Sonya opened her flagship store in the Larchmont Village area of Los Angeles. In the shop, she carries her signature pieces as well as jewelry by other designers that she admires as well as a small, special selection of clothing, bags and fragrance . . . It is an eclectic mix that represents Sonya's personal style.

And, even today, Sonya still uses the very same tools and techniques passed down by her Grandmothers to create the beauty in each of her designs. ENJOY!
