Sonya Ooten Faceted Moonstone Earrings in 14K Yellow Gold.
BIO Sonya creates her jewels by hand using techniques passed down through
generations, literally, and is widely recognized as the leader in hand
crocheted jewelry.
As a young girl, her Great Gramma Alice taught her Native American
beading & weaving techniques while Sonya visited her on the Colville
Confederated Tribes Reservation in Northern Washington State.
When she was five years old, Sonya's Grandmother Julia, an Eastern
Eurpoean émigré, gave Sonya her first crochet needle and introduced her
to the arts of crochet & tatting.
Sonya's formal fabrication training began in 1986 at the renowned
jewelry & metalworking laboratories at Dartmouth College. She went
on to study advanced silversmithing in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she
was represented in several galleries.
Sonya continues to draw deeply from both her Native American ancestry
& European roots while designing each of her collections.
